Destiny 2’s Ash & Iron Update Overhauls Weapon Meta: Key Changes Revealed

Bungie has posted the complete weapon tuning notes that will go live with Destiny 2’s Ash & Iron update on September 9. Every firearm archetype is affected, most visibly through cleaner hip-fire reticles that should make target acquisition easier on hectic battlefields.

Aggressive-frame submachine guns lose a chunk of their range as damage falloff now kicks in sooner, a direct counter to their recent Crucible dominance. Sniper rifles receive extra rounds per ammo brick to encourage more special-weapon showdowns, while lightweight shotguns tighten pellet spread angles, pushing them closer to precision one-shot territory without touching base damage. Bungie emphasizes that the goal is to shift the meta without erasing any archetype; expect patch-day vault shuffling as players test which rolls still feel crisp.

The studio lists dozens of smaller scalar tweaks—aim-assist cones, zoom multipliers, recoil patterns—spread across auto rifles, pulses, sidearms, and exotics. Players who live inside the official preview can already map out new god-rolls before downtime begins Monday morning.
