NCsoft has lifted the curtain on how Throne and Liberty’s newest weapon, the Orb, made the leap from concept to battlefield-ready tool. In a behind-the-scenes article released today, the design team details the balancing act required to merge offense, defense and area control into one magic focus while also delivering a brand-new class resource called Spheres.
According to the developers, the Orb was never meant to be a pure damage or pure healing stick; its identity as a tactical support weapon was locked in early prototypes. Iteration focused on minute variables such as the visual size of the orb and the clarity of each spell effect so that allies could instantly read the battlefield impact. By letting players juggle Spheres to fuel both crowd control and burst windows, the team aims to carve out a niche for gamers who prefer reactive setups over simple rotations.
All eyes now shift to September’s content drop, which will introduce the Orb alongside player housing and new battlegrounds, giving theory-crafters a full month to dissect these mechanics before real-world metrics begin rolling in.
