Star Citizen’s Squadron 42 Delays CitizenCon 2025 to Focus on 2026 Launch

Squadron 42 will skip CitizenCon 2025. Cloud Imperium Games content director Jared Huckaby confirmed on a recent Star Citizen livestream that the single-player campaign will not appear in October’s digital presentation, citing a studio-wide push to lock the previously announced 2026 release window.

The move is intended to keep the Squadron 42 team “heads down” and free of marketing distractions. Huckaby added, “We drew a line in the sand when we said 2026. I don’t know that we’re gonna make it; I just know that we’re going to do every single thing possible to make it.” His pragmatism triggered familiar fears of another delay among followers who have tracked the project since its 2012 Kickstarter, but the director later stressed on Reddit and the official forums that he was speaking literally about the unpredictability of game development rather than signaling a new setback.

CitizenCon Direct, confirmed earlier this year to be digital-only, will instead spotlight Star Citizen’s ongoing server-meshing progress and persistent universe features, leaving Squadron 42’s status unchanged until an unspecified future update.
