World of Warcraft Midnight Expansion Unveils Haranir Race, Devourer Spec, and Raid Cadence at Gamescom 2025

At Gamescom 2025 Blizzard lifted the veil on several systems heading to World of Warcraft: Midnight. Associate game producer Paul Kubit and lead combat designer Jade Martin sat down with YouTuber MrGM to confirm how the launch experience will unfold.

The new Devourer Demon Hunter spec will be playable in the pre-patch, pairing mid-range caster gameplay with sudden melee rushes. Blizzard is adding int-stance glaives and scythe weapons to gear the spec, while more class reworks will be revealed in upcoming dev blogs.

Players choosing the new Haranir race can slip across Azeroth by riding the roots of the World Tree, gain passive critical strike power for both damage and healing, and root foes in place with racial enveloping roots. Their starter zone is “similar” to the recent Earthen introduction; the exact starting level remains undecided.

Raid cadence was clarified, too: on day one of Midnight season one, Void Spire and Dream Rift open together. Two to three weeks later March on Quel’Danas follows. Each raid’s story is connected, but difficulty progression is not enforced. In addition, version-locked portals to Burning Crusade Eversong and Ghostlands will return, and future race-class combinations are on the table as the Worldsoul Saga continues.
