Square Enix is giving Final Fantasy XI veterans and newcomers a swift second chance to claim some of Vana’diel’s most sought-after glamours, as the Shadow Lord’s Dominion rerun returns on August 29 and runs through the end of September. Centred on the five-star mission battlefield introduced last year, the event once again awards the two variants of the Shadow Lord’s iconic crystal-dark swords: a one-handed replica pair and a colossal two-handed version. Alongside the weapons, successful clears also have a chance to drop a detailed Shadow Lord statue for Mog House decoration and an in-game t-shirt emblazoned with the fiend’s likeness.
The timing is a nod to the recently launched FFXIV alliance raid series; ironically, that series no longer spotlights the Shadow Lord as its final boss, even as FFXI keeps his legacy front-and-centre. Players still leveling alternate jobs or chasing Abyssea currency can safely treat this month-long window as an efficient way to secure the weapons without dipping into the notorious Ambuscade rotation.
